So ZDNet has a story about Microsoft fighting piracy of Windows Vista. The final quote is “Vista is the hardest system to pirate that we have yet released.” It’s classic Microsoft myopia.
Let’s consider how hard Microsoft’s other products were to pirate
- Windows 3.1: Trivial
- Windows 95: Trivial
- Windows 98: Trivial
- Windows Me: Trivial
- Windows NT: Trivial
- Windows 2000: Slightly more than trivial.
- Windows XP: Annoying, and not trivial.
- Windows 2003: Annoying, and not trivial.
The problem with Microsoft using their own prior products as a yardstick is that it doesn’t make for a very interesting measurement.
